A caption has three seconds to earn a stop. The captions that consistently earn that stop share a small, learnable structure.

Open on a felt observation
Not a hook in the YouTube sense — a sentence the reader recognizes from their own life. 'I rewrote this email four times' opens better than 'Today I want to share three tips.'
Earn the middle
The second line has to give a small payoff. A specific, slightly surprising detail. A line of writing the reader couldn't have predicted from the first.
Close on a transferable insight
End with something the reader can use, share, or save. Not a CTA — a piece of value. The CTA, if any, is what the reader chooses to do with it.
