Tone
The right tone, for the moment you're in.
We adjust register and warmth deliberately — so your apology lands as repair, your update lands as confidence, and your pitch lands as invitation.
Before & after
Before
Per my last email, the deliverables have not yet been received. Please advise on the current status at your earliest convenience.
After
Following up on the files we discussed last week — wanted to check in and see where things landed. Is there anything I can do on my end to help move it forward?
What changed, and why
- 'Per my last email' replaced with a warm, specific reference — same accountability, less passive aggression.
- 'Please advise' (a phrase that signals corporate weariness) replaced with a genuine offer to help.
- Tone shifts from 'building a paper trail' to 'collaborating to unblock,' which is what actually gets results.
- Identical information, completely different relationship.
When to use this rewrite
Use whenever the relationship matters as much as the information — customer threads, internal escalations, vendor communication, executive updates.
What to avoid
Don't soften an actual boundary. Tone work makes hard messages land better; it doesn't replace hard messages with vague ones.
Common questions
Can I save a tone preset for my brand?
Yes — voice presets let you save tone profiles for different audiences (executive, customer, creative) and reuse them across rewrites.
